John R. Hickman, Founder

Mr. Hickman has over 30 years in the Plastics Industry in management, engineering, and consultation.  He has held key positions with Weatherchem Corporation, Scott & Fetzer, Carlisle, and ITT before founding Plastech.  He has four plastic component patents currently in practice and several pending.  Mr. Hickman has been involved in multiple turn-around situations, most involving polymer based companies.  In each case, Mr. Hickman had the ultimate responsibility for turning those companies around; and in one case, recognition was given by Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management as being one of the 100 fastest growing companies in Northeast Ohio.  Mr. Hickman has significant hands-on experience with productivity programs, product design, concurrent engineering, team building, labor partnerships, engineering value assessments, market analysis, management evaluations, and total business evaluations.  Mr. Hickman's education consists of Chemical Engineering at Ohio State and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, with management courses beyond the Master's program.  A significant portion of Mr. Hickman's experience in the polymer industry was obtained on the manufacturing floor, directing a problem solving environment.  In addition, Mr. Hickman recently completed several assignments as an executive advisor to students in the new nationally recognized MBA program at Case Western and serves as the Co-Chairman of the Technology Committee/Trustee on the Polymer Ohio, Inc. board.  Mr. Hickman currently participates on various boards of directors for privately held companies and teaches several plastic related courses for the Akron Polymer Training Center as well as other clients.

Plastech associates have significant hands-on experience in the operation of plastic related businesses.  The associates have an average of ten years experience in the areas of marketing, engineering, product design, sales, manufacturing operations, and human resources.  Each associate has his/her undergraduate degree, some through the doctoral level in their appropriate discipline (most have their Masters or MBA); each has a proven track record in their field of specialization, during high growth or recessionary environments.
